After an initial transatlantic voyage from Southampton, England, to Galveston, Texas, Carnival Jubilee will sail seven-night voyages to the Western Caribbean out of Galveston. Carnival's last new vessel before the arrival of Mardi Gras in 2021, Carnival Panorama, didn't even crack the top 40 list of biggest ships when it debuted in 2019. Like Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, Carnival Jubilee will measure 181,808 tons, putting it in a tie with the former ships for the position of biggest ship ever to sail for Carnival.

To whet your appetite for cruising in the year ahead, take a look at our list of the nine new cruise ships arriving in 2023 that have us the most excited. Because a large percentage of the new cruise ships arriving in 2023 belong to an existing class and therefore have a familiar look, cruise fans might not find this year's new arrivals to be as exciting as last year's debuts. An adults-only ship and the ninth cruise ship for Viking Cruises, Viking Saturn is an ocean ship, but is small enough that it can dock at ports where larger cruise ships just can’t. Like Celebrity Beyond, Celebrity Ascent also will offer a redesigned Rooftop Garden area with increased seating, new private nooks and two new floating pools cantilevered over the side of the ship. Known for its luxury focus, the 30-year-old brand has long operated some of the world's most elegant ships. Regent is the cruising equivalent of the hotel world's Four Seasons chain — a brand promising beautiful accommodations, refined food and pampering service. Plus, Norwegian Viva will have The Drop, a 10-story dry slide that Norwegian says offers more G-force than an accelerating Formula One race car.

The 3,000-passenger Carnival Sunshine has many of the same bells and whistles that Carnival is known for but at a manageable size. Suess at Sea keep kids and teens entertained, while the Punchliner Comedy Club offers up laughs. There is a variety of dining options including the Compass Rose Main Dining Room, Prime 7 reservation-only American Steakhouse, and new speciality restaurant, Chartreuse serving French cuisine and premium cocktails. There is also a cookery school, Culinary Arts Kitchen, where guests can learn to prepare wonderful dishes using premium ingredients at one of the 18 cooking stations. The second ship in the brand’s Prima class, Norwegian Viva follows in the wake of her much acclaimed sister, Norwegian Prima which debuted in 2022.

Royal Caribbean (view best prices) was the big winner in the awards with seven #1 spots in various categories. In addition are five coastal-going ships, including three from American Cruise Lines and two for Havila. Of note is the debut of the Explora I from Explora Journeys, MSC’s new luxury brand. The ships range from the ultra-luxury Seabourn Pursuit to two more ships for Virgin Voyages and Carnival’s 5,400-guest Jubilee, which will sail from Galveston late in 2023.

Resilient Lady will initially sail in the Mediterranean before repositioning to Australia for the winter (where it'll mostly cater to the Australian market).

The new Carnival Jubilee is named after the original MS Jubilee, a Carnival cruise ship that was launched in the 1980s. You’ll find that this new ship is a big step up from its predecessor, though, with lots to do and family fun everywhere you look. The upcoming Norwegian Viva will be the sister ship to Norwegian Prima, and Norwegian Cruise Line has said that you can expect nearly identical experiences on both ships.
The ship has 465 all-balcony cabins and three suite options - Penthouse Junior Suites, Explorer Suites and the Owner’s Suite. Dining options include two main restaurants, speciality dining options, and a more casual bistro style café. Guests can sit back, relax and enjoy a drink in one of her four bars, lounges and pub.
Celebrity Cruises (view best prices) received the top spot for Best Food & Dining with American Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line finishing in second and third. Viking Ocean Cruises (view best prices) was named the Best Premium Cruise Line with Windstar Cruises and Oceania Cruises right behind Viking. As for shipyards, Fincantieri is set to deliver eight ships and Chantiers will deliver two. Meanwhile, Meyer Turku will deliver the Ion of the Seas and Meyer Werft will hand over the Silver Nova and Carnival Jubilee.
Passengers aboard SeaDream Yacht Club’s twin mega-yachts, SeaDream I and SeaDream II, have the opportunity to visit small ports around the world on 7- to 15-day itineraries. With a 95-person crew and a maximum of 112 guests, each passenger receives personalized service. Accommodation includes sixteen solo cabins, 918 Infinite Veranda cabins, plus two-storey Edge Villas and of course The Iconic Suite as seen on Celebrity Beyond. Other facilities include the wellness centre, gym, two swimming pools and a range of retail shops, perfect for days at sea. The luxurious Emerald Sakura will feature a variety of areas to dine and relax and an on board wellness centre, complete with a spa, gym, and sauna for the ultimate indulgence, as well as three tenders and a Zodiac.
Of the 38,000 ocean-going berths set to be delivered, the ships are an average of 2,031 guests and being built at a cost of $562 million each, for a total 2023 orderbook value of $10.7 billion. The fourth of Virgin Voyages Ladyships, Brilliant Lady, was set to debut at the end of 2023, when she was to join her sisters Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady. The ship is under construction at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Italy, and was floated out in November last year (2022) with bookings opening in September 2022.
